This map was created for the fictitious town of Clement (somewhere in the outback of South West Queensland), residents of which are at the heart of the story in the newly released novel "The Last Promise" by Terrence Antoniak.
Terrence wanted an aerial view with a 3D look. First step was to grid up the scale, then add the relevant buildings. The fun part was placing little bits of paraphernalia around the town.
The clump of grass in the bottom left is kangaroo grass (Themeda triandra), which is widely distributed throughout Australia, and the compass image at the top is based on the ZigZag Wattle (Acacia macradenia), which can be found in various parts of Queensland.
